Samrat’s bail extended, charge hearing Oct 20 in graft case

A Dhaka court extended bail to the expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a case filed for acquiring assets illegally until October 20. The court also fixed same date for framing charges against him.
Yesterday (Monday) was fixed for the indictment hearing in the case in the court of the Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka. Judge Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman of the court passed the orders after hearing.
Meanwhile, Samrat’s lawyers submitted an application seeking the deferment of the hearing on framing charges as his main lawyer is now staying abroad. The court then fixed October 20 for the indictment hearing.
Besides, Samrat’s lawyer Shahnaz Parveen Hira filed an appeal for his permanent bail but lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mosharraf Hossain Kajol opposed.
After hearing the submissions of both sides, the court rejected the permanent bail to Samrat, however, extended his bail until October 20.
On November 12, 2019, ACC Deputy Director Md. Jahangir Alam filed the case against Samrat on the charge of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 2,94,80,087.
