Sampa Das is a noted Nazrul artiste and a teacher. She has been working as a faculty of Department of Social Work at Lalmatia Women’s College for last one decade. Besides working as faculty, she gives time to Kazi Nazrul Islam’s songs and writings. She has own YouTube channel, SD Nazrul where 500 songs rendered by Sampa take place. She has intention to inform about background stories of unpublished songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam. It is noted that there are 376 songs published by Nazrul. Now Sampa is silently working to know about those unpublished songs which were composed in which ragas and tunes. For this reason, she became more uncourageous while doing her PhD.
Sampa is doing her PhD on Kazi Nazrul Islam now. She completed her Honours and Masters in Social Work at University of Dhaka, but doing her PhD under Dr Afsar Ahmed of Jahangirnagar University. According to her, while doing her PhD research Sampa is becoming more enthusiastic to know about Nazrul.
While talking about in this regard Sampa said, “I am working with Nazrul from my position. One day I will not remain in this world but people will be known about Nazrul. Our Nazrul is still unknown to all. Duration of his works was only 22 years. He was a poet of mass people. There was no boundary of his thinking. In our mechanised life, we lost love to each other but we can find many things in Nazrul’s words which help us to get inspiration for our survival.”
Sampa has two solo albums – Kothai Ghono Shyam (2014) and Andhare Badho Agnisetu (2017). She received training in Nazrul songs from Nilufar Yasmin, Ustad Yaqub Ali Khan, Khairul Anam Shakil and Fatema-tuz-Zohra in different times. Now she is receiving training from Kolkata’s Arun Bhaduri, she also said.
