Salam Talukder’s death anniv today

The 17th death anniversary of former BNP secretary general Abdus Salam Talukder will be observed on Saturday.
BNP and Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder Smrity Sangsad have chalked out different programmes, including discussion and milad mahfil,
too observe the day with due respect. BNP will arrange a milad mahfil at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday afternoon on the occasion.
The party also issued a message recalling his outstanding contributions to BNP for making it a stronger political organisation. In the message, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We pay our deep homage to his departed soul on his 17th death anniversary. Slam Talukder had played a significant role in establishing democracy in Bangladesh.” Salam Talukder was first elected MP in 1979 from Jamalpur’s Shorishabari constituency. He also elected MP in 1919 from the same constituency and became LGRD minister of the then BNP government.
On August 20, 1999, Salam Talukder died on the way to Singapore for medical treatment.
Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder Smrity Sangsad will hold a milad mahfil and discussion at his village home in Jamalpur on the day. It will also distribute cooked food among the destitute.
The organisation also arranged a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club on Friday commemorating the BNP leader.
