Saidpur Municipality Mayor Amzad Hossain Sarker in a crowded gathering at his office premises announced the annual budget for the municipality in 2016-2017 fiscal year.
The budget is the biggest ever budget in the municipality history as amounts Tk 76, crore 57 lakh and 765 and its specialty is that it does not impose any new tax on the citizens. Of the total amount, Tk 21 crore, 8 lakh 39 thousand and 770 will be added from revenue collection sector and the rest from development assistance, funds, donations of the government and different foreign donors.
It was expected in the budget that if the revenue collection comes smoothly then most of the important roads, drains and culverts will be renovated anew.
As a result, rainwater will not remain stagnant as before and the cleanliness campaign in every area will be boost up as handsome allotment has been kept for the purposes.
Besides this, the budget emphasized to support education sector, as more poor but brilliant students are likely to get stipend from the municipality fund.
The budget also focused on arranging electricity for backward areas with own poles and wires and rehabilitation of old municipality vehicles also purchasing new ones.
There is allotment in the budget to shift local haats and bazaars also the truck terminal to safer and wider places.
Creation of citizens’ amusements facilities like making parks, gardens, fountains at road intersections will be set up.
At the fag end of announcing the budget, the mayor answered different questions of the citizens through telephone and also met the quarries of the journalists in face-to-face conversation session.
All the 20 councilors of the municipality attended and spoke in the ceremony where they vowed to work unitedly for the betterment of the citizens.
The municipality officials and employees also expressed deep satisfaction as there was special allotment in the budget to pay their arrears and retirement benefit to the ex colleagues.
