Saidpur Airport to get status of 4th International Airport

Saidpur Airport of Nilphamari is going to get the status of International Airport soon.
After Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet International Airport, the process of upgrading Saidpur to the country’s fourth international airport has already started.
Already, the announcement of the international airport on the billboards set up by the Ministry of Civil Transport and Tourism at the terminal premises of the Saidpur Airport has been adorned. However, the name of the airport can be changed.
Initially only Biman Bangladesh Airlines used to travel on a specific day in Dhaka-Saidpur-Dhaka route.
Meanwhile, in 2007, on the pretext of losses, the flights were suspended in Dhaka-Saidpur-Dhaka route. Subsequently, in 2008, Royal Bengal, United Airways, USBangla, Novoair, Regent Airways, has started to fly at Dhaka -Saidpur route.
Later, from April 9, 2015 a flight of Bangladesh Biman operates daily on Dhaka-Saidpur-Dhaka route. Currently, 8 flights are taking place every day from Saidpur Airport.Passengers of 8 district of greater Rangpur-Dinajpur region are using Saidpur Airport.
Local and Civil Aviation Ministry sources said , due to geographical location, the government has taken a policy decision to upgrade Saidpur Airport to International Airport. Under the Indian credit agreement, its overall development work will be completed.
On March 31, a two-member team of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) visited the airport to see technical analysis and infrastructural real-world development of international airport up gradation.
The team of high officials included top officer of the Ministry of Tourism and Air Commodore Air vice Marshal Mohammad Nayeem Hasan Chairman of the CCAB, Mostafizur Rahman Member (Operation and Planning) Air Commodore.
