Sheikh Arif Bulbon :On the occasion of Mother’s Day, a maternity dress exhibition organised by fashion house, Sadakalo is going on at the La Galerie of the Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the city’s Dhanmondi area now. The opening session of the exhibition started with a brief introduction on this exceptional initiative by the organiser that followed a fashion show. The time is small, the time is different, the time is wonderful, the time is memorable for the joy of birth, the time is while the child stays at his mother’s womb…To make the pregnancy period a bit easy and wonderful, Sadakalo has organised the two-week long maternity dress exhibition. In continuation of theme-based concept, Sadakalo launched maternity dresses for pregnant women. This kind of concept is very new and fresh in our country and Sadakalo is the first to introduce this concept. The ceremony was separated into two parts – first an exclusive fashion show and then sharing of pregnancy experience by prominent women celebrity guests. The fashion show presented the life of pregnant women involved in different activities. Usually pregnant women need to work at home as well as in the work place, often need to travel from one place to another, do the shopping and also to attend various social events including parties. The models walked through the stage illustrating the life of pregnant women in four different steps – home, work, outside and parties. The different situations were presented in projectors from the back of the stage, while the models performed with the corresponding situations. After the fashion show, some of the celebrity guests shared their experience during pregnancy. Renowned actor Shampa Reza said, “When I was pregnant, I wondered what kind of dress to wear. I wore the conventional dresses in different way. Today pregnant women do not need to worry about dresses, because Sadakalo spared their worries.” ADC of Police Abeda and sculptor Ferdousi Priyovasini also shared their experiences while they were pregnant. Other notable guests who were also there in the opening ceremony were noted educationist Dr Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir, play director Chayanika Karmokar, media activist Mithila Farzana, actors Shahin Khan and Shankar Shawjal, artists Moniruzzaman, Mrinal Hoque and Ahmed Nazir Khokon, among others. Later the exhibition of maternity dresses was inaugurated at the La Galerie, AFD by the guests.
