Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) have assured the city residents that all waste would be removed within 24 hours of cattle slaughtering on the Eid day. The holy Eid will be celebrated on September 2. The collection of sacrificial animals’ waste will begin at about 2pm of the day, said DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon in a press briefing jointly organised by DSCC and DNCC at Nagar Bhaban in the capital.
Eid holidays of waste management workers have been cancelled for rapid cleaning, the Mayor said.
“We hope to remove the waste of sacrificial animals within 24 hours,” said the Mayor. He asked the people to use the 1,174 spots (625 in the North and 549 in the South) to slaughter cattle. The two City Corporations have specified these spots. But there is no hard and fast rule about the use of the spots, meaning anyone
can perform ritual outside the marked zones, he added.
“Please use the specified areas to help us remove the waste quicker. In case you perform the ritual inside your building, keep the waste in sacks provided by the city corporations and then place them outside your house.”
Dhaka North City Corporation will supply 455,000 sacks and Dhaka South City Corporation 250,000 to its residents before Eid, according to the Mayor.
Dhaka will witness the slaughtering of around 4,75,000 cattle this year, Mayor Khokon said. “and piling up of around 25,000 tonnes of extra waste in the capital.”
