South Africa (SA) fast bowler Vernon Philander is set to miss the boxing day Test match against Pakistan due to a fractured finger.
Uncapped Dane Paterson has been added to the squad for the first Test as Philander’s replacement. South Africa will be up against the men in green without their two main seamers. Pacer Lungi Ngidi is also set to miss the series due to an injured knee and a return before February is unlikely to happen.
However, with the likes of Dale Steyn, Kagiso Rabada, and Duanne Olivier, the bowling options still look good for the hosts. Uncapped Paterson is likely behind those three in the pecking order.
