S K Sinha made new Chief Justice

Staff Reporter :Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, the senior most Judge of the Supreme Court Appellate Division, was appointed the new Chief Justice on Monday.The President, in exercise of his power under article 95 (1) of the Constitution, made the appointment.He will replace incumbent Chief Justice Mozammel Hossain.Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry has issued a gazette notification to this effect.Sinha will take over as the Chief Justice of Bangladesh on Jan 17 while Justice Md. Muzammel Hossain will retire on Jan 16.SK Sinha is the son of late Lalit Mohon Sinha and Dhanboti Sinha of Tilakpur village under Alinagar union of Kamalganj upazila, Moulvibazar.He obtained LLB degree from University of Chittagong (CU). He was enrolled as an advocate of the Sylhet District Judge Court in 1974 and the High Court (HC) Division of SC and Appellate Division in 1978 and 1990 respectively.Justice SK Sinha is also the incumbent chairman of Judicial Service Commission.He was appointed judge of the HC Division on October 24, 1999, and Justice of the Appellate Division on August 16, 2009.
