Saudi Arabia has agreed to recruit more Bangladeshi female workers along with an equal number of their close male relatives as a result of successful diplomatic efforts of the present government.
Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc said this in the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday while replying to a question from treasury bench member Gazi MM Amjad Hossain Milon.
“We have sent 20,952 female workers to Saudi Arabia in 2015 under a memorandum of understanding (MoU),” the minister said. He said the government signed the MoU in February 2015 to send the female housemaids.
A total of 26,98,050 Bangladeshi nationals went to Saudi Arabia with employment receiving embarkation clearance from Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) from 1976 to 2015, he added.
