Russian trainer aircraft YAK-130 arrives for BAF

First phase of six Russian Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft reached Chittagong Air Force Base on Monday. The aircraft will allow training pilots in flying four-plus and fifth-generation combat aircraft.
Out of 16 aircraft, six were brought in Chittagong by AN-124 transport aircraft, said a press release issued by Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).
It said: The present government has taken various steps to modernize Bangladesh Air Force [BAF]. In this development process, government has taken steps to induct 16 Russian YAK-130 combat trainer aircraft in BAF.
‘YAK-130 aircraft is basically combat trainer aircraft which can be used in land and sea support purpose as
well. These aircraft are made by Irkut Aviation Corporation of Russia.’
Mentionable that three aircraft among the first batch of 06 were brought to Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque, Chittagong on 20 September 2015. Rest of the aircraft will be brought to the country by turn.
‘Inclusion of these YAK-130 aircraft in BAF inventory would help BAF pilots to receive better and modern combat flying training. These YAK-130 aircraft can also be utilized in operational role in the land or sea warfare as well during any conflict,’ the ISPR said.
