Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Bangladesh has been making relentless efforts for expansion of bilateral and multilateral relations through forming parliamentary friendship groups with different countries across the world.
“Bangladesh always attaches utmost importance on inter-parliamentary relations,” she said on Monday when Russian Ambassador in Dhaka Alexander A. Nikolaev called on her at the latter’s office in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
During the meeting, they discussed wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues when she hoped that existing bilateral relations between the two countries would be further expanded in the days to come.
Referring to the current parliament, she said the parliament session is going on lively as the opposition is actively participating in the proceedings.
In the meeting, the Russian envoy handed over two greeting messages of Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and Chairman of State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin to the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker. In the messages, they greeted Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury for her election as the Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad for two consecutive terms.
They expressed the hope that relations among the parliamentarians of the two countries would be consolidated further under her able leadership.
