A Parliamentary committee recommended forming societies at village level, associations at union level and federation at upazila level for the supervision and management of embankments of haor.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources Ministry made the recommendation at its 29th meeting on Tuesday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here.
Committee members State Minister Water Resources Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Md Faridul Haque Khan, Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury, Anupom Shahjahan Joy and Selina Jahan Lita attended the meeting with Committee Chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair.
The committee also suggested for enhancing the capacity further in meeting the flood situation.
The meeting discussed different issues including current flood situation, development and non-development budget for 2017-18 fiscal year of Water Resources Ministry, Haor Board activities and latest state of excavation of Bogra canal of Teesta project.
The committee recommended for overseeing current activities of dredging, re-excavation of canal before coming of rainy season to stop water-logging by ADP project, continuing conservation of bordering rivers and taking up necessary measures to recruit manpower for Water Resources Planning
Organization at every upazila to end its manpower crisis.
Water Resources Ministry Additional Secretary, Water Development Board Director General, concerned officials of the ministry and parliament secretariat were present on the occasion.
