Rupali Bank makes remarkable progress

In forty years of banking operation since 1972, Rupali, one of the four nationalised banks of Bangladesh, has succeeded in showing remarkable progress. In 1972 the bank had an operating profit of Taka 0.70 crore and in 2014 it rose to as high as Taka 252.70 crore in 2014. In 1972 the bank had a workforce of 2416 employees in 159 branches and in 2014 the number of employees was 5914 in 535 branches.
In 1972 the deposit in Rupali Bank was Taka 62.47 crore that rose to Taka 22,165.68 crore in 2014-an increase by more than 357 times in forty-two years of operation.
Deposits of Rupali Bank have increased from Taka 9112.38 crore in 2010 toTaka 10723.40 crore in 2011, Taka 13659.88 crore in 2012, Taka 17795.58 crore in 2013 and Taka 22165.68 crore in 2014-an increase of more than double in five years.
Total assets of the bank rose from Taka 12443.45 crore in 2010 to Taka 14302.33 crore in 2011, Taka 17299.31 crore in 2012, Taka 21618.58 crore in 2013 and Taka 26807.84 crore in 2014-an increase of more than double in five years.
The number of employees of Rupali Bank has increased from 4559 in 2010 to 4982 in 2011, 5645 in 2012, 5669 in 2013 and 5914 in 2014-the number of employees increased by 1,355 persons in five years.
The number of branches of Rupali Bank has increased from 492 in 2010 to 503 in 2011, 506 in 2012, 528 in 2013 and 535 in 2014-43 branches have increased in five years. The branch-employee ratio of Rupali now stands at 1:11 plus.
Statistics of last five years show that profit after tax of Rupali Bank rose from Taka 60.03 crore in 2010 to Taka 109.13 crore in 2011, Taka 120.57 crore in 2012-the profit more than doubled in three years. But the profit after tax came down to Taka 40.38 crore in 2013 and again in 2014 it stood at Taka 42 crore.
