UNB, Dhaka :BNP on Wednesday alleged that the ruling party has resorted to the path of terrorism in the city polls being unnerved by the popularity of the opposition-backed candidates.”Why does the ruling party fear Khaleda Zia? The ruling party has resorted to the path of terrorism having failed to face BNP politically,” said BNP international affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon.He further said, “We urge the government and the ruling party to face BNP politically. You please refrain from creating tension.”The BNP leader came up with the remarks while addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.Ripon alleged that some terrorists are also taking part in electioneering with Awami League-blessed mayoral contenders. “The election atmosphere will be harmed and people will get scared if the terrorists carry out campaign in such a manner.”He urged the Election Commission to take action against the terrorists. Showing the photographs relating to the attacks on BNP chief’s motorcade at Karwanbazar and Fakirapool published in different dailies, the BNP office spokesman said the ruling party ‘cadres’ carried out the attacks.Ripon urged the EC to deploy army in the three cities from on (Wednesday) instead of April 26 to ensure a congenial polls atmosphere and fair election. “We’ve already welcomed the Commission’ s decision to deploy army three days ahead of the polls. But, we want to call upon it to deploy army from yesterday as the ruling party men are obstructing to opposition-backed candidates’ electioneering and attacking the BNP chairperson’s motorcade.”
