‘Rule of law must to ensure HR’

Former Chief Justice and Chairman of the Law Commission ABM Khairul Haque on Tuesday emphasised on the rule of law and the practice of democracy to ensure human rights in the country.
 “Rule of law and practice of democracy is a must for human rights. The human rights will be hampered if
either of the two conditions is violated,” Khairul Haque said.
He said this at a seminar titled “Human Rights Strategy of South-East Asia: Probability and Obstacle” held in the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the Dhaka University.
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) organized the two-day seminar that began on Monday.
National Human Rights Commission Chairman Professor Mizanur Rahman presided over the seminar while Justice K G Balakrishnan and President of National Human Rights Organisation of Maldives Mariam Azra addressed the function as the special guests. Member of NHRC Kazi Riazul Haque read out the Dhaka Declaration while NHRC Secretary M M Salam gave the vote of thanks.
Khairul Haque said, “The human rights are being violated in the whole world. It began in the 1st World War and continues till date. Thousands of women and children have been killed in Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Iraq. It is high time to raise our voice against the violation of human rights.”
He called upon the human rights activists and educated man in the country to make voice against the human rights violation and to work to make the common people conscious.
Khairul Haque asked the human rights activists to work more to find out the impediments and take proper initiatives to ensure human rights in the country.
Kazi Riazul Haque expressed deep concern over the increasing human rights violations in South East Asia.
