RUJA, RUTA for punishment to attackers

The journalists association of the Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA) on Sunday condemned the police and BCL’s attack on the journalists and the general students, demanded exemplary punishment to the guilty.
Rajshahi University Journalists Association (RUJA), Rajshahi University Reporter’s Unity (RURU) and Rajshahi University Press Club (RUPC) jointly organised a human chain programme in front of the university main gate at 12:30pm.
The journalists pressed home two-point demands.
These included withdrawal of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, East Region Deputy District Commissioner Proloy Chisym from the campus and four assistant proctors, of RU namely Sakhawat Hossain, Sirajul Islam, Zulfiqar Ahmed and Helal Uddin. The journalists accused the assistant proctors in masterminding the attack.
RUJA President Shakir Ikram of Dainik Ittefaq, RUPC President Dalim Hossain of Dainik Dinkal, RURU General Secretary Saikot Monir, Rajshahi District Representative of Somoy TV Mehrun Sujon and Maasranga TV’s Golam Rabbani addressed the aggrieved journalists.
The Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA) at a press conference held at the university dean’s complex demanded exemplary punishment to those who clobbered and injured the journalists.
They also condemned armed attack on the students and demanded a neutral probe committee in the interest of the fair investigation into the incident for justice. The teachers also held university administration responsible for failure to prevent the incident. The teachers at the same time condemned the attack on the teachers’ residents at Juberi Bhabon during the incident. Among others, RUTA President Prof M Azhar Ali and General Secretary Professor M Sultan Ul Islam addressed at the press conference.
