Former Health Minister AFM Ruhal Huque claimed that the misinformation about his wife’s bank account was given in affidavit to the Election Commission (EC) through oversight.
He says that the credit balance was quoted Tk 7.53 crore instead of Tk 45.17 lakh at the time of submission of nomination paper to the EC for the 10th parliamentary election held on January 5.
The former health minister said, “I deeply regret for
such unintentional mistake and assure my party leaders and workers and others of taking utmost care while giving any information about any matter.”
Ruhal Haque told this to the media men when he was leaving the ACC head office on Monday. ACC Deputy Director Mirza Zahidul Alam questioned him at noon about his ways of earning wealth.
He said that the EC had corrected the statement on his request. When asked, why he took time in this regard, he said, “I have already explained it to the ACC about this. There is no need further clarification to you.”
ACC summoned him on February 22 for talks. Ruhal and his wife possessed Tk 92.38 lakh in their bank accounts in 2008 as per statement submitted to the Election Commission. In five years, the amount incredibly increased to Tk 10.15 crore. Apart from it, the valuation of his movable and immovable wealth was shown Tk four crore in 2008 and Tk 16 crore in 2013.
