Rubel cleared of rape charges

Court Correspondent :The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka yesterday (Wednesday) exempted cricketer Rubel Hossain from the charges in a rape case. Film actress and model Naznin Akhter Happy filed the case against him. Judge Tanjila Ismail of the Tribunal passed the order, rejecting the no-confidence (naraji) petition of actress Happy. On Sunday, she filed the no-confidence petition in the court againstthe final report submitted by police in the case. On December 13, last year, Happy filed the case against the National Cricket Team pacer Rubel Hossain with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.The First Information Report (FIR) of the case says that the actress had an intimate relation with Rubel for eight months as Rubel had promised to marry her and thus established physical relationship.Later, Rubel reportedly backtracked for which Happy filed the case alleging that Rubel raped her several times at his flat located beside Mirpur Commerce College under Mirpur Model Police Station.On December 15 last year, a bench of the High Court granted Rubel an anticipatory bail for four weeks as he surrendered to it seeking bail. On January 6 this year, the HC summarily dismissed a writ petition filed by Happy seeking the removal of the pacer from the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. However, on January 8, a Dhaka court sent Rubel to jail on his surrender, rejecting his bail plea in the case. On January 11, the cricketer secured bail from a Dhaka court in the case. On April 13, the case was transferred to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka.
