RU student beaten by locals, 3 held

Police arrested three locals for allegedly beating up four students of Rajshahi University on Monday.
They are– Rabi, Sirajul and Usha. Police arrested them from Binodpur area adjacent to the university.
The victims were students of RU Institute of Business Administration (IBA).
Following the incident, on Sunday night, Shihab Al Kuraish, 20, a university student filed a case on Matihar police station under women and children repression act accusing Rabi, Shanto, Sirajul, Usha, Shipon, Joni and also 15 unknown persons.
According to the case statement, some local youths showed sexual gestures while the four RU students including two female students taking up tea in a stall at Binodpur Bazar. Noticing the matter, RU students Nayem and Shovon protested it. At one stage of altercation, two locals among the attackers took away the two female friends’ scarf and beat up them indiscriminately.
Meanwhile, students of Institute of Business Administration staged demonstration on the campus protesting the incident. They said that locals have remained safe despite doing different occurrence. The university administration did not take any action against the locals till now.
Contacted, Hafizur Rahman, officer in charge of Matihar police station, said “we are interrogating the three accused. After interrogation, a proper action would be taken against them.”
