RU celebrates 65th Founding Anniv

The teachers, students and officials of the Rajshahi University (RU) celebrated its 65th founding anniversary amid much enthusiasm and fanfare mood through various programmes on Thursday.
RU, the second largest educational institution for higher studies, was established in the then East Pakistan on July 6, 1953 with 6 departments under 3 faculties. There were only 161 students and 68 teachers at the beginning and Prof Itrat Hossain Zuberi was the founder Vice-Chancellor of the university.
At present, over 1,200 teachers in 50 departments under 9 faculties, 5 research institutes and 18 residential halls – 11 for male students and 6 for female and another for international students – have facilitated the university for around 32,000 students.
Authorities have chalked out different programmes including colorful procession, tree plantation, discussion and cultural programmes to mark the the university day amid festivity and enthusiasm.
Academic buildings, residential halls and main streets had been decorated and painted on the occasion.
RU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Abdus Sobhan will inaugurate the programme with its top officials at 10.10am releasing balloons and pigeons in front of the university administrative building.
National and university flags will be hoisted atop of senate building, administrative building, VC’s residence, central library and all students’ dormitories.
Following the inauguration, a colorful procession with participation of teachers, students and university staffs will be brought out on the campus. Later, the authorities will also hold a discussion at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium.
