Rajshahi University Lekhok Forum (RULF) Tuesday rganised a round-table discussion at the university’s Rabindra Arts building on newly approved National Broadcasting Policy.
Prof Mahfuzur Rahman Akhonda, president of RULF presided over the meeting while Prof Rafiqul Alam, former vice chancellor of Islamic University, Kustia, addressed as a chief guest.
Speakers at the roundtable said, National Broadcasting Policy has been formulated to gag the voice of media. They demanded cancellation of the policy.
“It is as like to gag the voice of 16 crore people of the country”, they observed and alleged that the government with an evil motive is trying to establish absolute control over the media.
Citing Article 39 of Bangladesh Constitution, by which freedom of speech was guaranteed, speakers also observed that it was a clear violation of the said provision.
They also termed it as a black law and undemocratic policy of 21st century which assists the government to establish sole autocracy in the country.
Among others, Prof Shamsul Alam Sarkar, convener of Nationalist Teachers Forum, Dr KM Sahadat Hossain, former Pro-VC of RU, Prof M Azhar Ali, former president of RU Teachers’ Association spoke at the meeting.
