Premier Division Cricket League: Rony stars as Mohammedan clinch scoring thriller

Rony Talukder missed 8-run short from century but Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited managed an exciting seven runs victory over Gazi Group Cricketers in the first round super six match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League held on Wednesday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
The 26-year right handed batsman Rony cracked eight boundaries and two over boundaries during his 95-ball stay on the crease and shared 148-run second wicket partnership with opener Shamsur Rahman (74) powered his side to amass a massive total of 324 for 8 from their allotted 50 overs.
Later, Nazmul Hossain Shanto (47) and Zabid Hossain (16 n.o) made a quick fire to take the team’s total past 300 runs landmark, after Mohammedan were forced to bat first by Gazi Group. M Shahazada and Abu Haider shared two wickets each giving away 52 and 78 runs respectively.
Chasing a winning target of 325 runs set by Mohammedan, Gazi Group got a good start but some tight bowling spells by Mohammedan bowlers in the slog overs restricted Gazi at 317 for 8 in 50 overs.
Munim Shahriar top scored with 88 and also shared 61-run opening stand with Anamul Haque (36).Suhrawardy Shuvo, however, offered strong resistance with a breezy 57-run from 54-ball and remained unbeaten till the end of the innings.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Bipul Sharma and Sajedul Islam shared two wickets each for Mohammedan.
Rony Talukder of Mohammedan was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.
