UNB, Jamalpur :The suspected ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Kualakandi in Madarganj upazila on Monday night.The deceased was identified as Shamim Fakir, 28, son of Lal Miah Fakir of Teghoria in the upazila.Tipped off that Shamim, accused in 12-14 cases, was staying in Kualakandi area along with his associates, a police team launched a drive there to arrest him, said assistant police super Yunus Ali Miah.However, the gangsters opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.Shamim was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, he said, adding that three policemen were also injured in the inciden.
