UNB, Joypurhat :An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Dhapsandhya in Khetlal upazila on Wednesday night. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.Superintendent of police Molla Nazrul Islam said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery on the Molamgari-Shibpur road by placing logs, a team of police launched a drive in the area at about 11:45 pm.Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on them prompting the police personnel to retaliate with firing that triggered a gunfight.A member of the robber gang was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police also recovered some sharp weapons from the spot.
