A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and police at Shalikhar intersection in Kaliganj upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Iqbal Hossain, 32, son of Abul Kashem, a resident of the village.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, said being informed that a gang of robbers were preparing to
commit a robbery by placing logs at Shalikhar intersection on the Kaliganj-Arpara road, a team of police conducted a raid in the area around 2 am.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on police, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Iqbal was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his associates managed to flee the scene.
