A notorious robber was injured in a gunfight with policemen here in Phulbari upazila under Dinajpur disrict on Friday early hours. Three policemen including two officers were also injured as the robber gang attacked the police team.
The injured robber was identified as Saiful Mollah, 45, son of Sharimuddin Mollah under Adampur village in Phulbari upazila under Dinajpur disrict.
The injured robber was an accused of 81 robbery cases filed in different districts received a bullet on his right leg, was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The injured policemen were Akkel Ali, a Sub-Inspector, Shamim Mondal an assistant Sub Inspector and Mizanur Rahman a constable of Phulbari upazila police station.
Moksed Ali Officer in Charge (OC) of Police Station said the 3 policemen were being treated at Phulbari upazila Health Complex.
Police said they arrested Saiful Mollah from Dhaka and took him back to Phulbari Upazila Police station on Thursday (16th june) night.
After an short interrogation, a police team led by Officer in Charge (OC) Moksed Ali raided his house at Adampur village at around 2.00am Friday early hour to recover robbed goods and weapons used for robbery.
While police team was returning end of the raid, a 15-member robbers’ gang attacked police from an ambush as they arrived at Jangal bridge of Chintaman-Atkupurhat road in Phulbari upazila in Dinajpur, leaving 3 policemen injured including two officer and a constable.
After the robbers fired several gunshot and snatched away Saiful Mollah from police.
Later, in retaliation police fired 10 round of bullets which left Saiful Mollah injured on the spot and the robber gang fled the spot.
Manik Ratan Chairman of Kazihal union Parishad of Phulbari upazila said locals of his area got a big relieve as they heard about arrest news of the notorious robber.
Moksed Ali , Officer- in- Charge (OC) of Phulbari upazila police station said the rescued sharp weapons and cash money from his possession.
