‘Robber’ beaten to death in Gazipur

A suspected robber and a caretaker of a house were stabbed to deaths in Gazipur Sadar and Tongi upzilas on Tuesday night respectively, police said.
Quoting the locals, Joydebpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jakir Hossain said that a suspected robber has been stabbed to death after a mob swooped on a group at Meghlal village under Sadar upzila in Gazipur early around 3:30 am. The deceased could not be identified immediately.
The police official said that a gang of five to six robbers entered the house of one Shafiz Uddin of Meghlal village around 3:30am and giving the
identity of Detective Branch (DB) of Police. At that time the fake DB members beat up the residents and started looting valuables from the house.
Local people came to the rescue of the residents hearing their screams in the early hours of the day and were trying to flee away from the spot. But the people from the locality gave chase and managed to catch one of the members, who was later beaten to death, he said.
The OC said that the body had been sent to Gazipur Sadar morgue for autopsy.
Quoting the locals, Tongi Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Izzat Ali confirmed the matter and said that a caretaker of a six-storied building was stabbed to death over suspected theft of a mobile phone set by a tenant and his two colloquies in the Gazipur’s Tongi area on Tuesday night.
