Road communication with north-eastern part of the district has been disrupted as ferry pontoon capsized on Arial Kha River due to boarding over loaded truck on Saturday morning.
Rafiqul Islam, supervisor of Mirganj Ferry Ghat, under Babuganj upazila of Barishal, acknowledging the facts said over loaded pontoon with gangway capsized fully and the truck also capsized partly on Arial Kha River when the truck boarding on pontoon after crossing the river.
`We are trying to unload the truck and create diversion way by placing another pontoon to résumé road communication in the area within Saturday night.
After visiting the spot it was found that road communications between Barishal-Muladi- Hizla-Mehendiganj upazilas has been disrupted as pontoon at Mirganj side of the ferry crossing point capsized on Arial Kha River due to boadirding overloaded truck carrying 42 electricity supply poll of Rural Electrification Board (REB/ Palli Bidyut Samity) on Saturday morning.
Locals said the pontoon capsized when the over loaded truck tried to board on the pontoon to reach on road at 8.30 AM Saturday.
Huge number of road transports jammed in both sides of the river due to disruption of ferry communications.
Azam Sheikh, executive engineer, Barishal ferry division of roads and highways department, said we are trying to solve the problem and hope that within night another alternative way by placing jetty and pontoon would be prepared.
The truck was loaded with least 40 electricity supply polls, instead of normal loading capacity of 15 polls and this over loading caused the accident, he added.
