At least 18 more persons, including five activists of Ruling party and banker, were killed and several others critically injured in separate tragic road crashes across the country on Monday.
In Khulna, at least six including five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League were killed in separate road accidents of the district on Sunday night and Monday at Rupsa bridge.
The deceased were identified as Mahmud Hasan Babu, General Secretary of BCL Unit of Gopalganj district, ASM Sadikul Alam, Jubo League President of Gopalganj, Walid Mahbub Utsab, Deputy Secretary BCL Unit of Gopalganj district, Saju Ahmed, Assistant Secretary of District BCL, and Aminul Islam Gazi, member of district BCL.
On local sources, Labanchata police Station Office in-charge (OC) Md Shafiqul Islam said that the accident took place when a car carrying the victims heading to Rupsha Bridge collided head-on with a cement-laden truck in front of Labnchara police station around 10:45pm to save a pedestrian, leaving five dead on the spot.
At doboria, a school girl named Megla, 12, was killed and 20 others injured when a picnic bus overturned at Coknagar area of the upazila on Monday.
Moniruzzaman Mithu, Additional Police Commissioner (ADC) of KMP confirmed the matter to media.
In Munshiganj, at least three person including a banker were killed and another injured when a private car rammed a covered van at Bhaberchar bus stand area under Gazaria upazila of the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Siddiqur Rahman, 70, retired banker of Grameen Bank at Kachua upazila of Chandpur, his wife Jasmine Sultana, 55, and Abdullah Sarkar 33, son of Moqbul, of Shibpur area under Matlab South Upazila of Chandpur.
Jahirul Islam, Traffic Inspector of Bhaberchar Highway Police confirmed the matter media.
In Lalmonirhat, at least three persons including two motorcyclists in Patgram and another in Sadar upazila were killed in road crashes of the district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Khorshed Alam,38, aand Arif Hossain,40 of Patgram and another unidentified person,50, from Sadar upazila.
Sajjad Hossain, Office in-charge (OC) of Patgram police told the news media.
In Narshindi, at least two motorcyclists were killed when a covered van rammed their motorbike on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Paolanpur of the district on Sunday evening.
The deceased were identified as Rabbi Mia, 28, son of Delo Mia of the same area and Roxy, 25, son of Mostafizur Rahman of Tatapara village in Madhabdi Upazila of the district.
Officer-in-charge of Madhabdi Police Station Dewan Abu Taher said.
In Rangpur, a truck driver named Rafiqul Islam was killed as his vehicle collided face-to-face with another truck on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Pirgonj upazila of Rangpur Monday.
Rangpur Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Moazzem Hossain confirmed the matter to media. In Dhaka, a 50-year-old woman was killed when a truck run over after her legs were cut off from hips in a road accident in Badda area of the capital city Sunday night.
Rafiqul Islam, Office in-charge (OC) of Baddha Police said it.
In Pirojpur, minor boy named Abdullah was killed when a motorbike rammed him in Motobariya upazila of the district on Monday.
