Road crashes claim 10 lives in 3 districts

At least 10 people were killed in separate road accidents in Narsingdi, Narayanganj, and Tangail on Friday.
In Narsingdi, at least six people, including a woman and a child, were killed and at least nine others were injured in a collision between a covered van and a human hauler in Sadar upazila.
Four of the deceased were identified as Chan Miya, 55, of Gazipur’s Kaliganj, Aman Miya, 23, of Purbadhola village in Netrokona, Al-Amin, 12, son of Saiful Islam of Banglabazar in Sunamganj and Hafizul Islam, 45, of Narsingdi’s Belabo.
Police are trying to identify the remaining two victims, said Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Enamul Haque Sagar.
Police and witnesses said a covered van collided head-on with a human hauler (locally known as Leguna) in Bhatpara Chakshal intersection on Panchdona-Ghorashal-Tongi regional highway around 2:30pm, leaving two dead on the spot.
Locals rushed the injured passengers to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where two victims were cleared dead on arrival and two more died while undergoing treatment.
The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue, said ASP Enamul adding that legal action was being taken in this regard.
In Narayanganj, two people, including a child, were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Sonargaon upazila.
The deceased were identified as Monir Hossain, 40, son of Nuru Miah of Vitipara area of Noagaon union under Sonargaon upazila and Habib, 12, son of Ruhul Amin of Baghbaria village under Jampur union.
According police and witnesses, a speedy pickup van coming from Madanpur rear-ended a van carrying fish in Taltola Stand area of Jampur union, killing two people on the spot.
The injured people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Inspector Md Iqbal of Taltola police outpost.
In Tangail, two people were killed and five others were injured in separate accidents on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
The deceased were identified as Rafiqul Islam of Dhaka’s Mirpur and Rahad Sarkar of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha.
SI Zaheer of Elenga Highway Police Outpost said that a car heading north from Uttara hit the back of a covered van when it reached Pach Bikramhati area on the highway. A passenger of the private car was killed and four others were injured on the spot.
Meanwhile, a mango-laden pickup lost control and fell into a ditch in Ashekpur area of the highway. The driver truck was killed on the spot and his assistant was injured.
