The workers of Gous Garments factory in the port city staged demonstration protesting the retrench of 125 workers yesterday at Bitac crossing under Pahartali thana in city . Protesting the retrenchment of workers, they seized road in front of the factory. The workers enforced protest demonstration from 9 am and the road is now blocked for any movement of vehicles. Pahartali thana sources said about 1500 workers were working in this factory. Sources said when the workers turned in factory premises, they came to know that 125workers sacked and notice exhibited in front of main gate of the factory. Sensing the news of retrenchment,the workers enforced agitation . Workers sources said the management of the factory misbehaved with t hem while asked about the reasons of the retrenchment . Police sources said tensions were prevailing among the workers centring the retrenchment issue some times ago.
Joint Secretary of Gous Fashion garments Md. Ibrahim told that the management engaged some muscle man against the workers since long and retrenchment of workers excuted while asked about the torture by the terrorists on workers. A reliable sources said about 15 workers were injured during the protest demonstration. Factory workers Rozina and Nurnahar alleged that they were tortured with sexual violence by the hired criminals of the management . Additional Deputy police commissioner Arefin Jewel told that the workers being agitated over the unnoticed retrenchment , the workers seized road and continuing their agitation till writing the report. Acting director of Industrial Police of Chittagong Tofael Ahmed told that they are trying control the situation and additional forces deployed on the spot.
