Traffic movement on Saat Rasta intersection in the city remained halted for one and half an hour on Thursday morning as several hundred garment workers put up barricade on the busy street for a hike in their wages.
The workers of a several garment factories including those of Standard Group took to the streets around 8:00 am, creating severe gridlock on Mohakhali-Moghbazar road and its adjoining areas, said Abdul Rashid, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon

Industrial Police. The workers of the factories have been staging demonstration for last couple of days demanding salary hike, he added. The workers took to the street when they found the main gate of a factory closed in the morning. Commuters had to suffer immensely due to the aggravated traffic condition during the rush hour. However, the traffic congestion became normal around 9:30 am after police intervention.
