RMG will fetch $50b within 2021: Tofail

“RMG sector will be number one foreign currency earner and will fetch $50b within 2021 by meeting all requirements of foreign buyers,” Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said this while he was inaugurating a press conference as chief guest organized by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at its conference room in the city on Saturday.
BGMEA President M Atiqul Islam presided over the meeting and second vice president SM Mannan (Kochi), vice president M Shahidullah Azim and other leaders of the organization were present.
Tofail Ahmed, the Commerce Minister said, “Comprehensive action plan has taken by the government to provide all facilities to the RMG sector, so the sector can be full-fledged compliant one within the next three years.”
The chief guest further said, “A garment village will be setup soon at Santir Char in Narayanganj on one thousand acres of land.”
Atiqul Islam President of BGMEA said, “We arranged this Apparel Show just to overcome the bad impression created on the mind of foreign buyers by the Rana Palza collapse and regain our lost glory on RMG”.
He further said, “To make the summit fruitful we have arranged seminar by 8 sessions focusing on importance of industry, nation branding and progress of the garment industry in Bangladesh. The discussions highlighted the holistic/national approach toward branding Bangladesh and its apparel industry.”
“It will be difficult to achieve the target with a traditional business model. We need to mind set with the changing world with new design and fashion otherwise we will stay back cannot compete with the future.” opined Atiqul Islam. .
The summit is the first step towards building a positive image of the country, he said. “We have sent a message abroad that Bangladesh is not a land of disasters and natural calamities, but is a land of opportunities and business.”
