RMG owners seek money from workers welfare fund

For every export invoice of the garment industry, zero point 03 percent is being deposited in the workers’ welfare fund. In order to save the existence of the garment industry owners in Chattogram in a crisis situation, the fund has to play a role in taking loans from that fund.
BGMEA First Vice-President Md Abdus Salam sought the cooperation during a meeting of BGMEA leaders with Abdullah Al Shakib Mubarrat, the new Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection, Chattogram at the conference room of the BGMEA Regional Office on Sunday.
Abdus Salam said that all the workers who lost their jobs during the Corona period have been promised 3 months salary and allowance by the European Union through their mills and factories.The first vice-president of BGMEA said that the garment industry was going through a critical period due to the global corona outbreak. On behalf of BGMEA, I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to all concerned including the Prime Minister for this.
He said BGMEA and DIFF would work together to resolve the labor grievances through dialogue with those concerned.
At the end of Chattogram based ongoing development activities especially Karnafuli Tunnel, Bangabandhu Industrial City at Mirsarai, Anwara Economic Zone, etc., a large number of garment factories with a large foreign investment will be set up. Trade promotions will increase in Chattogram, as a result, the activities of the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments (DIFE) will also increase day by day.
Deputy Inspector General Abdullah Al Shakib Mubarrat said the demand of the owners should keep the production activities will sustain and timely wages of workers demand will befullfilled. He assured to expedite the process by renewing the license of the garment industry.
BGMEA Vice-President AM Chowdhury Selim presided over the meeting while BGMEA Director Mohammad Musa, Mohammad Atiq, Khandaker Belayet Hossain, Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Labor and Fire Mohammad Saif Ullah Mansur and committee members Mir Fazle Karim, Md. Abdur Rahim and others.
