UNB, Dhaka :The government on Tuesday asked the readymade garment factory owners to pay the salaries and Eid bonus of their workers by July 26.The RMG factory owners also agreed to comply with the government order, said State Minister for Labour and Employment Ministry Mujibul Haque Chunnu.He came up with the disclosure after a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufactures & Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Textiles Mills Association (BTMA) and trade unions at the Secretariat.”The RMG factory owners assured us of giving the salaries and Eid bonus of their workers by July 26 while some owners have already paid that,” the junior minister said.Chunnu said they held the meeting as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’ s directive to avert any untoward incident between the workers and owners of garment factories over salaries and bonus ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.He said, the garment factory owners have also been asked to pay either full or half the salaries of their workers of the current month as the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated at the end of this month.Besides, a control team has been formed under the supervision of the BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA, aiming to ensure that salaries and Eid bonus of the workers are given.The workers can complain to the control team through the five numbers of it if any owner fails to disburse salaries and Eid bonus by the time.The State Minister urged the transport owners not to collect extra fare from the garment workers when they will travel to their home during the Eid holidays.
