State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Tuesday asked RMG owners to pay Eid bonus to their workers by September 20.
The workers must also be paid the salary for 15 days of the current month.
The decision came at a meeting between the Minister and the owners and workers at Labour and Employment Ministry.
The Labour Law does not include Eid bonus for workers, said the Minister. However, the ministry had given the decision as the owners usually pay the Eid bonuses.
Representatives from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) attended the meeting.
Some 10 lakh workers, who are employed in around 1,200 subcontracting RMG factories, are still facing uncertainties in getting their salaries and bonus before Eid as the factory owners are now facing fund shortage due to order crisis.
According to BGMEA there are 1,200 subcontracting RMG factory in the country employing over 10 lakh workers.
