A garment factory owner and his driver were arrested by the members of RAB with firearms and bomb-making materials on Saturday night on charge of involvement in supplying firearms and funding militancy.
The arrested Imran Ahmed, 37, Managing Director (MD) of Jim Tex, is said to be a Majlish-e-Sura member of Sarwar-Tamim group of “Neo-JMB”, Dhaka City West unit.
Imran Ahmed was arrested from Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj and Shamim was arrested in Brahmanbaria, said Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of RAB Headquarters, in a press briefing at its media centre in the city’s Karwan Bazar on Sunday.
During primary interrogation, Imran admitted his link with the militant outfit, said Mufti Mahmud.
Mufti Mahmud Khan said that Imran gave shelter to militant suspect Sajid at his Mohakhali residence. Sajid fled from the militant den of ‘Atia Mahal’ in Sylhet where four militants were killed during a four-day operation that officially ended on March 28.
Sajid was said to be a close aide of the new Ameer of Neo-JMB, Abu Muharib, the RAB official said.
Imran used to collect members for the terror group in Gulshan, Banani and Mirpur areas of Dhaka city, he added.
Imran also confessed to offering shelter and providing financial assistance to many of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh top leaders, claimed the RAB Director.
RAB arrested one Abdul Hakim last year and Imran give Tk 200,000 to Hakim’s wife for legal fight, he claimed.
Imran also used to coordinate JMB activities in 10 districts, he added.
They also recovered arms and objectionable books from the possession of the accused, he said.
