The government has taken initiative to bring all the districts of the country under railway network within next five years. Work has already been started from Barisal, said Railway Minister Mujibul Haque on Thursday while talking to the reporters at the Railway Bhavan.
He said, special attention will be given for the construction of the railway line from Paira port to Mawa. At present, there are railway lines in 44 districts. Since the AL government returned to power in 2009, it undertook a 20 year-master plan for the development of the railway communication.
A total of 46 new development projects amounting to Tk 27,398 crore were taken. Of them, 24 projects had already been implemented, while most of the remaining projects will be done within two to three years. Further, the revised projects for Tk 18,025.34 crore had been approved.
The most important work is to instal railway lines on the Padma Bridge. Besides, the construction of the Parallel Bangabandhu Bridge for rail, the Duhajari-Ramu- Cox’s Bazar, the Ramu- Gundum duel gauge single line, Dhaka-Comilla high speed standard gauge line and the Joydebpur- Ishwardi duel gauge double line will begin soon.
Bangladesh Railway (BR) has achieved a significant progress in implementing the Annual Development Programme (ADP). The success is 62 percent comparing with 56 percent at the national level, said Amjad Hossain, Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Railway (BR).
The government approved Tk 3,450 crore in the revised national budget 2014-15. The allocation for BR will be increased in the new fiscal 2015-16, the minister hoped.
Online ticketing: Bangladesh
Railway has issued a directive recently that traveler can purchase ticket through online and mobile phone without any hassle. The minister said that a passenger could print his ticket from his mobile using printer. Beside the passenger can show the message received from the railway station to rail the traveling ticket examiners. In the message seat no, destination and traveling class would be mentioned.
Grameen phone, Banglalink and Robi mobile SIM user will get the facility. The BRAC Bank, Dutchbangla Bank and VISA card holders will also get special facilities. In this way, 25 percent tickets can be purchased.
