Rizvi on fresh remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka once again on Wednesday placed BNP Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on a fresh remand for two days in a separate case filed on charge of hurling petrol bomb on a bus at Mirpur in the capital. Magistrate Md Shamsul Arefin of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing on the latest remand plea in the afternoon (Wednesday). Earlier, Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station and Investigation Officer of the case, Md Rafiq, produced BNP leader Rizvi in the court, seeking a seven-day remand in the case filed with the police station on charge of setting a bus ablaze and hurling petrol bomb in front of Sony cinema hall on January 25 during the blockade programme of the 20-party alliance.
The BNP leader’s name is included in the First Information Report (FIR) of the case. He was taken to the court on Wednesday on completion of a five-day in another case filed with the same police station on charge of vandalism and attempt to kill passengers and the staff of a bus by throwing petrol at them.
In the wee hours of January 30, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up Rizvi from a house in city’s Baridhara area and was kept on remand for 26 days from February 1. He was first placed on a three-day remand in a case filed with Badda Police Station. Later, he was placed on a five-day remand in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station on charge of burning a bus. On February 10, he was put on a five-day fresh remand in another case of Jatrabari Police Station. He was again put on a three-day remand in another case of the same police station on February 16.
Besides, he was placed on a two-day police remand in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station on February 20. After three days on February 23, he was placed on a three-day remand in a case of the same police station.
