Syed Shemul Parvez :
Riyadh was deliberately killed by pouring petrol and setting fire on his body due to a personal conflict with Fahad, the cashier at the filling station.
The three accused have confessed during the preliminary interrogation after the arrest.
However, the filling station authorities claimed that was an accident.
A 20-year-old youth Riyad Hossain, who was allegedly set on fire by his co-workers at a petrol pump in Jurain area of the capital, died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 12:45am on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
The family of the deceased has demanded exampilary punishment for those involved.
The three arrested are identified as main accused Fahad hossain, and his two assistants Emon and Roney respectively.
Riyadh, an honors student, worked at this filling station in Jurain. He joined this month to help his family in addition to his studies. Who knew this job would take away his life?
Ever since he started working, pump accountant Fahad has been harassing Riyadh in various ways. One day there was an intense quarrel between the two. Fahad then planned to kill Riyadh.
As part of this, on November 24, in the staff room of the filling station, nozzle operators Emon and Roney poured octane on Riyadh and set him on fire with matches.
Mofizul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shyampur Police Station, said that four operators including the victim were on night duty at the petrol pump. One of the four, Emon, was asleep and Riad went to call him for duty.
Unable to wake Emon, Riad sprayed a little bit of octane on his face. Angered by this, Emon took a container of octane, poured it on Riad and set him on fire, leaving him critically injured, the police officer said.
Other employees of the petrol pump later took the injured to the hospital, the OC said.
Sources said that the accused used to harass Riyadh Hossain on various pretexts. At one stage they caused this incident in a pre planned manner.
After proper investigation, we will submit the investigation to the court, police added.
Meanwhile, filling station authorities has marked this tragic incident as a trifling issue over a ploy of mischief. Riyad’s parents lost their beloved child. They want justice.
Riyadh’s mother cried and said, “Even before Riyad die, I asked who set fire on you. He replied Emon.
Another relative of Riyadh said, Emon was the main culprit. Emon set the fire on Riyad with petrol.
