Rivers in southern region flowing above danger level

The people of Barishal is now under three consecutive days of rain. Every day from midnight to midday, people are in trouble due to rain.
The Bay of Bengal has been rough for a couple of days due to the influence of low pressure and the advance of the full moon. At high tide, more water is entering coastal rivers has been raised than ever before. In this, most of the rivers in southern region water is flowing over the boundary line.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain is likely for three more days till the attraction of full moon went. Along with this, there is a risk of inundation with high tides up to 4 feet higher than the normal tide on the southern coast as most of the rivers are flowing above the danger level.
Gusts of up to 40 kilometers per hour and thundershowers may occur during this time. Masud Rana Rubel, senior observer of Barishal Meteorological Office, gave this information in the bulletin at 3 pm on Thursday.
He said that the rainfall has almost doubled in the last 24 hours as 24.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in the previous 24 hours. But in the last 24 hours it has increased to 45 mm. At this time the air humidity was 100 percent. Wind speed is 15-20 kmph.
The official said that the wind speed is likely to increase to 30 to 40 kmph. Mainly due to the presence of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal and the active monsoon over Bangladesh, the weather department informed.
During this time, there is a risk of inundation of low-lying areas with a height of 2 to 4 feet above the normal tide. Along with that there may be rain with thunder.
Masud Rana Rubel further said, due to the hostile weather, all the ships in the river and the sea have been asked to stay anchored on the shore.
Payra Sea ports are asked to display local signal No. 3 and river ports to raise No. 2 naval warning signal.
The different part of Barishal city has been flooded. Tidal water has entered many parts of the low lying areas of the city. Apart from this, the lower areas of different upazilas of the district and division have been flooded. People going to work and day laborers are in trouble due to continuous rain. Students are unable to go to school. Already many district roads, fish enclosures, crop lands have sunk.
Barishal Water Development Board has recently informed that the water of most of the rivers of the division is flowing over the danger line. However, the Water Development Board does not call this situation a flood. Their hope is that the water will go down and the attraction of full moon would be passed.
On Thursday (August 11) at 4 p.m., Barishal Water Development Board Deputy Assistant Engineer Muhhamad Masum said that the water of 11 major and important rivers of the division is flowing over the danger level.
This official said that the water of Kirtankhola River in Barishal district is flowing 12 cm above the danger level while the water of Tentulia river in Bhola Kheyaghat area is flowing above 30 cm of danger level.
Water level of Surma and Meghna Rivers in Daulatkhan upazila is flowing 69 cm above , while in Tajumaddin upazila 87 cm above the danger level.
The Bishkhali river in Jhalkathi district is 19 cm above, Burishwar/Payra river in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali district is 29 cm above, Bishkhali river in Barguna district is flowing above 36 cm, the water of Bishkhali river in Patharghata upazila is above 65 cm, the water of Baleshwar river in Pirojpur district is flowing above 2 cm and the water of Kacha river in Umedpur is flowing above 20 cm above the danger level.
On other hand a pronounced low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is currently located over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas of India. Due to this, the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata coast in Patuakhali is rough. ##
