A prison guard has chanced upon a ‘missing’ Chinese rifle of the Kashimpur High Security Central Jail, Gazipur, in a prison pond three days after it went missing.
Jailer Jannatul Farhad said, 50 prison guards went into a jail pond on Wednesday morning. A guard, Al Amin, recovered the weapon from there.
He was at once rewarded with Tk 5,000 for the recovery by Md Bazlur Rahman, head of the probe committee formed by the authorities and Senior Jailer Md Mizanur Rahman.
Chief Prison Guard Md Sirajul Islam Hawlader
realised on Sunday afternoon that a rifle was missing while counting the weapons in the armoury.
A four-member probe committee was formed to look into the matter that night with Rajshahi Division Deputy Inspector General Md Bazlur Rahman as its chief.
Three guards, including Sirazul Islam, were suspended by the authorities.
“A meeting was held with the prison guards that night to recover the missing weapon at any cost. That’s when it was decided that a search will be done inside out,” said Jailer Jannatul Farhad.
