Rich tributes paid to Altaf Mahmud

Journalist leaders in Chittagong today paid rich tributes to the late journalist and president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Altaf Mahmud for his outstanding roles in ensuring rights of journalists.
Terming his death an irreparable loss in the movement for journalists’ rights, the journalist leaders said late Altaf was an honest journalist leader who played a pioneering role in ensuring the rights of the journalists across the country.
The journalist leaders came up with the comments in a condolence meeting arranged by Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ).Addressing the meeting, the speakers said the late Altaf was not only an honest journalist but also a brave leader who had been able to realise the demands of the journalist community.
Presided over by CUJ president Ezaz Yousufee, the condolence meeting was addressed, among others, by former president of Chittagong Press Club (CPC) Abu Sufian, BFUJ vice-president Shahidul Alam, CPC president Kalim Sarwar, former CUJ presidents- M Nasirul Hoque and Mostak Ahmed, CPC senior vice-president Kazi Abul Monsur, CUJ Vice-president Ratan Kanti Debashish, General Secretary (GS) Hasan Ferdous, CPC GS Mohsin Chowdhury, BFUJ Executive Member Asif Siraz, former CUJ GS- Nurul Amin, Nazim Uddin Shayamal, Reaz Haidar Chowdhury and Nirmol Chandra Das, BFUJ joint secretary general Topon Chakrabarty, CUJ Joint Secretary Shamsul Islam and chief of representative unit Samir Kanti Barua.
Earlier, CUJ arranged a Doa and Milad Mahfil seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.
