RHD takes up Tk 5.33b project for dev of six regional Highways in Sylhet Zone

The Roads & Highways (R&H) Department has taken up a major development project for the improvement of 4 regional highways in greater Sylhet region.
Additional Chief Engineer, Sylhet Zone Md. Shah Nawaj said the Tk 5.33 billion project would help major improvement of of the different damaged parts of the 6 regional highways of Sylhet division.
Tenders would be floated this month, as the 3-year project is set to start from the current fiscal 2017-2018, the official added.
Among those, 22 km on the 46 km long Pagla-Jogonnathpur-Raniganj-Aushkandi road in the districts of Sunamganj and Habiganj would be upgraded.
Six km damaged portion of the 14-km Golapganj-Dhakadakshin-Bhadeswar road in Sylhet district would be upgraded through rigid pavement.
Meanwhile, 3.6 km would be upgraded and 700 metre would be made rigid pavement on the 42 km long Rajnagar-Kulaura-Juri-Barlekha-Beanibazar-Sheola-Charkhai road spreading in Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts.
Besides, 60 km on the 90 km long Sylhet-Golapganj-Charkhai-Zakiganj road of Sylhet district would be developed through major reconstruction works.
Same way, 12 km on the 18 km long Juri-Lathitila road of Moulvibazar district would be upgraded and 2 culverts would be constructed there.
Moreover, 28 Km on the 52 km long Sarail-Nasirnagar-Lakhai-Habiganj road in the districts of Habiganj and neighbouring Brahmanbaria would be improved while 4 bridges would be constructed and damaged parts of the road would be strengthened through rigid pavement.
Over 3,550 tonnes of wheat output achieved: In Sylhet division Over 3,550 tonnes of wheat have been produced in this year. However, per hectare yield stands at 2.2 tonnes this season.
DAE sources said, The highest yield reportedly comes from Sunamganj, where the crop was cultivated on 588 hectares of land followed by 487 hectares in Habiganj and 442 hectares in Sylhet.
The lowest output comes from Moulvibazar where the cereal was cultivated on 22 hectares of land.
Wheat cultivation is on the rise in the region. Cultivators show more interest in farming the crop on more lands due to its high demand, sources added.
The DAE also set some demonstration plots in different areas of the division to insist the growers on wheat farming.
