Different professional bodies and some eminent citizens of the country have expressed their strong resentment over recent increasing incidents of abductions and murders in the country in general and port city Narayanganj in particular.
The present crisis has been created, they said in a joint statement, following failure of the law enforcing agencies in conducting proper investigation of incidents of abductions and arrest of those responsible for the crimes.
They said that they were deeply shocked over the abduction of Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam with four others and Advocate Chandan Sarker and his driver and throwing their bodies into the river Shitalakhya.
The signatories to the statement include Professor Anisuzzaman, Prof. Salauddin, Qayum Chowdhury, Prof. Zillur Rahman Siddique, Prof. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Prof. Zillur Rahman Siddique, Prof. Ajay Roy, Dr. Sarwar Ali,
advocate Sultana Kamal, Ramendu Majumder and Nasiruddin Yusuf.
Meanwhile, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Professor Mizanur Rahman on Friday stressed the need for restoration of sense of security among the people as they are in the grip of panic over incidents of abductions and murders in the country.
Addressing a two-day workshop at Barguna on Friday, Professor Mizanur Rahman said the government has to ensure security of life of the people.
The members of law enforcing agencies, he said, have to discharge their responsibility with a sense of dedication and commitment.
Meanwhile, Advocate Shahdeen Malik , a senior lawyer of the Supreme Court on Friday demanded withdrawal of RAB from Narayanganj. He also expressed strong resentment over incidents of abductions. He made the demand when visiting the Narayanganj residence of Advocate Chandan Sarker with some lawyers of the Supreme Court to express sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
Another member of the team Z.I Khan Panna said RAB has no authority to arrest any one. It is the responsibility of police to arrest, he said.
