Rest of UP polls to be completed in peaceful manner : CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad today commented that holding of the Union Council (UP) elections in the rural areas by 180 days are full of twist and turns.
He said the commission is trying to complete the rest UP elections in the country with more peaceful manner.
“We must take more effective steps to prevent previous anomalies and working on a system that will allow aspirants for the fifth and sixth phases of the election to submit their documents online,” CEC added.
CEC Rakibuddin Ahmad said this while addressing the meeting with law enforcing agencies, representatives of district administration and officials of election commission held at circuit house this noon.
It was the commission’s second meeting in Chittagong with law enforcers after the six round of election to the union councils, the lowest local government unit, began on March 22.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mezbah Uddin presided over the meeting while Election Commission secretary Sirajul Islam, divisional commissioner of Chittagong Ruhul Amin, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Chittagong range Safiqul Islam, Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Iqbal Bahar and high officials of police, coast guard, BGB and UNO of concerned upazilas attended the function.
