Sylhet Sixers registered a resounding 58-run victory over Khulna Titans in the 31st match of the UCB 6th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.
Electing to bat first, Sylhet Sixers piled up a mammoth total of 195 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then shot out Khulna Titans for 137 off 18.1 overs.
Sylhet Sixers made a superb start as openers Liton Das and Afif Hossain put on together 71 runs in the opening stand before Liton Das was caught at the deep mid-wicket by David Wiese off Tajul Islam.
Liton hit a polished 34. His 22-ball innings was studded with three fours and two sixes.
Later, Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Nawaz contributed together 89 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership before Sylhet Sixers innings came to an end.
Afif Hossain hit his team’s highest of 49. His 37-ball knock was belted with five fours and two sixes.
Sabbir Rahman remained unbeaten with 44. His 29-ball innings was laced with four fours and two sixes.
Mihammad Nawaz remained unbeaten with 39. His 21-ball knock saw three fours and two sixes.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam of Khulna Titans grabbed three wickets at the cost of 30 runs, while Junaid Khan took one wicket conceding 48 runs.
Later, Khulna Titans had a modest start as openers Brendan Taylor and Junaid Siddique added together 27 runs before Junaid was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Sabbir Rahman off Taskin Ahmed.
Then Taylor and Al-Amin made a notable partnership. They put on together 37 runs in the second wicket stand before Al-Amin (16) was trapped leg before wicket by Sohail Tanvir when Khulna’s total was 64 for the loss of two wickets.
After dismissal of Al-Amin, Khulna batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
Sylhet’s bowlers dominated over the Khulna batsmen and earned a huge victory.
Taylor hit a fine 34. His 23-ball innings was decorated with three fours and a sixer.
Ariful Haque and Junaid Siddique added 24 and 20 runs respectively to the Khulna total.
Nabil Samad of Sylhet Sixers captured three wickets at the cost of 20 runs, while Taskin Ahmed bagged a pair of wickets instead of six runs.
Sohail Tanvir, Alok Kapali, Ebadat Hossain and Mohammad Nawaz took one wicket each for 16, 25, 33 and 34 runs respectively.
Mohammad Nawaz of Sylhet Sixers was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
