Resounding victory for Rangpur Riders

Rangpur Riders registered a resounding nine-wicket victory over Chittagong Vikings in their Twenty20 cricket match of the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Tuesday.
Chasing Chittagong’s paltry total of 111 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs, Rangpur romped home in 17 overs making 113 for the loss of one wicket.
Rangpur Riders made a formidable start with Soumya Sarkar and Jahurul Islam, the two openers of Rangpur Riders contributed together 102 runs before Jahurul Islam was caught by Tamim Islam off Shafiul Islam.
Soumya Sarkar remained unbeaten with 58. His 56-ball plucky innings was laced with eight fours and a sixer. Soumya Sarkar was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Jahurul Islam hit a polished 47 from 44 balls featuring four fours and a six.
Earlier, Chittagong Vikings had a good start as Tamim Iqbal and TM Dilshan, the two openers added together 39 runs before TM Dilshan (18) was caught at the long-on by Jahurul Islam off Arafat Sunny.
Later, most of the batsmen of Chittagong Vikings failed to build any notable partnership. The Rangpur bowlers dominated over the Chittagong’s batsmen and thus they were restricted to a fragile total.
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal fought back against Rangpur’s controlled bowling attack.
Tamim notched up a fine 36 from 43 balls including two fours before He was caught at the long-on by Thisara Perera off Mohammad Nabi when Chittagong’s total was 83 for the loss of four wickets.
Naeem Islam remained unbeaten with 16.
Shakib Al Hasan and Arafat Sunny bagged a pair of wickets each at the cost of 16 and 27 runs respectively.
Saqlain Sajib, Mohammad Nabi and Thisara Perera took one wicket each for 10, 18 and 19 runs respectively.
