Resisting militancy thru’ cultural activities stressed

Theatre personalities at a discussion here have called upon the dramatists, drama producers and drama artistes for resisting militancy, terrorism and fundamentalist extremism through enhancing cultural activities.
They put special emphasis on creating social renaissance to flourish healthy culture against militancy through writing, producing and staging more dramas in line with the spirit of War of Liberation.
They made the opinion at the discussion arranged in the inaugural ceremony of a four-day production-based workshop on drama organised by Rangpur Nattya Kendra (RNK) at its office on the Town Hall premises in the city on Thursday afternoon.
President of RNK Alhaj Kazi Mohammad Junnon attended the ceremony and inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest.
General Secretary of RNK Razzaque Murad, also Organising Secretary of Rangpur divisional unit of Bangladesh Group Theater Federation, has been coordinating the workshop.
A total of 28 learner drama producers have been taking part in the four-day workshop that will conclude through a certificate giving ceremony at the same venue on August 7 next.
Noted drama producer Sumit Mohanato has been conducting the workshop as the Chief Trainer while Razzaque Murad, drama personalities Moksudar Rahman Mukul and Al Amin have been assisting him as the Assistant Trainers.
The speakers narrated the importance of writing and staging time-befitting dramas to create a renaissance and inspire common people in resisting militancy, terrorism and communalism to establish peace and accelerate uplift.
The chief guest specially stressed on enriching Bengali culture through strengthening cultural movement, producing more drama artistes and popularising stage and street dramas to establish the non-communal spirit in building a peaceful Bangladesh.
He put special emphasis on informing the young generations about the true national history and awakening common people on the severity of militancy, terrorism, anarchy and fundamentalism through establishing spirit of the War of Liberation.
BSS from Narail adds: Deputy Inspector General of police Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhhury said a section of people is patronizing terrorism and militancy in the name of Islam in the country.
He was addressing as a chief guest in a view exchange meeting at the police super office of the district yesterday.
He said police would root out the militancy from the society by any means with the help of the people of Bangladesh. He also urged all to be united against militancy.
Police super Sardar Rakibul Islam presided over the meeting. District Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif, district Administrator Subhas Chandra Bose, women leader Anjuman Ara and Ashok Kumar Kundo also spoke at the meeting.
Sylhet Correspondent adds: Sylhet District Information Office (DIO) is distributing anti- militancy and anti-terrorism pamphlets among the people aimed at creating mass awareness against militancy and terrorism in Sylhet city on Thursday evening.
Sources said the Ministry of Information took the initiative to distribute leaflets among the people across the country to aware the countrymen against militancy and terrorism. Accordingly, the DIO here started distributing the leaflets among the people of the district since Tuesday to attain the cherished goal, sources said.
